Snow levels will rise to 7000 feet friday morning...then quickly lower during the afternoon and evening as a cold front reaches the area. Up to foot of snow is possible near the sierra crest above 7000 feet through late friday night. Winds will also increase in the sierra...with gusts up to 100 mph possible over the higher ridges. The heaviest snow with this storm could reach interstate 80 and highway 50 late friday afternoon. The combination of heavy snow and strong wind may impact travel over the sierra passes and into the tahoe basin. For western nevada and the eastern sierra slopes...the main impact is likely to be strong winds ahead of the cold front. Frequent wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible friday afternoon and evening...with stronger gusts in wind prone areas. Light snow accumulations are possible friday evening.
